Wrexham took the Premier Cup for the fourth time, inflicting a heavy defeat on Southern League Newport County. Newport had previously defeated the other two Football League clubs, Swansea City and Cardiff City, to reach the final.
The format was the same as the previous season - two groups of four clubs, with the top two in each qualifying where they were joined by four exempt sides, namely Barry Town, Cardiff City, Swansea City and Wrexham. The exempt teams were automatically drawn away at the quarter final stage
