Athenian League |
|
The Athenian League was formed in 1913 and, for 70 years was the second
strongest amateur league in the South East of England.
The league became dormant in 1984 when the majority of the members
joined the expanding Isthmian League. There have been a number of attempts to
re-start the league since the late 1980s, but none have been successful.

In 1963, the league expanded to three divisions, named Premier, One and Two

The F.C.H.D. has a complete set of Athenian League tables, originally composed
from an A.F.S. Publication of 1985. Mike Wilson then complied an excellent history
of the League in three A5 volumes in the mid-1990s which not only included the
league tables, but full result grids as well. The most recent publication to
include full Athenian League tables was "Non-League Football Tables 1889-2002",
by Soccer Books Ltd (ed Michael Robinson)
