F.A. Cup 1872-73
For the one and only time, The Football Association Challenge Cup lived up
to its name. The holders, Wanderers, were exempt to the final and the other clubs
("allcomers") played elimination rounds in order to "Challenge" Wanderers.
Queen's Park were given byes until the semi-finals in order to reduce the
amount of travelling necessary, but then withdrew anyway when scheduled to play
Oxford University, who therefore received a walk-over to the final.
